Happy Monday Yuma! This year is already off and running, can you believe we’re already halfway through January? Well, take a minute, slow down, and get a glimpse of everything that’s going on this week in Yuma. As always, reach out to the Yuma Chamber of Commerce if there’s something that you’d like to have included in our Week at a Glance!
Spanish Classes
Spanish is one of the most commonly spoken languages. Whether your New Year’s resolution was to learn a new language or you’d like to learn some basic Spanish to better communicate with employees, coworkers, or family, you’re in luck! Morgan Community College is offering a Conversational Spanish and Spanish for Business class in the upcoming months. This is a fantastic way to gain some confidence and learn the very basics needed to communicate. Both classes are global, making it even easier to take your Spanish speaking to the next level. Enroll online at MorganCC.edu.

Tax Credit Benefits
Donations are a fantastic way to help the organizations throughout Yuma County. One of the areas that we all see the need to support are the organizations that manage our child care and early childhood education. Something that many don’t know, however, is that when you donate to organizations like these, you receive a generous credit on your taxes!
When you donate to the Early Childhood Council for Yuma, Washington, and Kit Carson Counties, you can receive a 50% credit on Colorado tax. Individuals or business donations will help give kids access to quality child care by enabling these counties to recruit and retain quality child care providers and professionals. For any questions on making a donation or the tax credit, visit the Early Childhood Council website at www.eccywk.org or by phone at 970-360-9099.
Walk the Plains for Early Childhood
If you are starting this new year off with the intentions of an active and healthier lifestyle, you are going to want to sign up for the Walk the Plains fundraiser. Through this fundraiser, you use your phone, Fitbit, Apple watch or the like to track your steps/pedals/runs. This fundraiser costs $35.00 to sign up and challenges each individual to walk 200+ miles through January. Sign up with your friends, family, or coworkers to start this year off right and help early childhood development in Yuma County.
Census 2020
The Census is going to be taking place from March through August of 2020. The information collected during this time contributes to the amount of funding that our county receives. The postcards will be sent to individual households to inform people where they can fill out their information. All information collected is completely confidential and can be answered in over 13 different languages. If you have any questions about the census, feel free to ask!
