Yuma is our home. We raise our families, go to work, make a home, and create a network of friends. All of this – and so much more – is why our first responders are such a vital part of our community. They keep it safe! This month, the Yuma Chamber of Commerce wants to honor our first responders as our member of the month. The various agencies throughout Yuma are all dedicated to keeping our community safe. Keep reading to learn a little bit more about each of the agencies as well as how you can follow what they’re up to, online.

Yuma Volunteer Fire Department

November Business of the Month: Our First Responders 11

The idea of a volunteer fire department first began in 1902 when Frank Boren suggested the idea to council. That being said, this idea did not come to fruition until July of 1913 when a hose cart and some fire hose was purchased for $100. Seven years later, in November of 1920, the Yuma Volunteer Fire Department was organized. A 1921 Model T Ford Fire Truck was purchased and it was the primary piece of equipment for the following ten years.

This month we also honor the Yuma Police Department, Yuma County Sheriffs Department, and the Colorado State Patrol all of which protect and serve Yuma County.

We thank each and every one of you for all that you do.
