We’re starting 2021 off grateful. Not only are we grateful for a clean slate, but we are grateful for the members that continue to make our community one that we love living in. With all of that said, it’s time to tell you about our January Member of the Month: The Rural Communities Resource Center. This group of individuals is one that dedicates their days to helping individuals in Yuma when they need help the most. Keep reading to learn a little bit more about Rural Communities Resource Center, and to the team behind this organization – thank you, for all that you do!
Rural Communities Resource center officially became an organization in 1984. While this may be the day that they officially became an organization, their work began before this. The recognition for assistance in our community and neighboring communities became obvious, and work began informally prior to the organization’s official start.
The Rural Communities Resource Center currently has four full time staff members in Yuma and two full time staff members in Akron. They are currently in the process of hiring two additional individuals and are so excited to see this growth happen within the organization. The team itself is diverse, but the common ground that they all have is the love that fuels the work that they do. With three bilingual staff members, they’re able to offer assistance to the Spanish speaking community.
The Resource Center is exactly what it sounds like, a place where one can find resources for a variety of needs. In fact, there are so many resources, you might be surprised just how much this group of individuals can assist with. Below is a list of the different services and programs that the Rural Communities Resource Center can assist with.
- Food Bank
- Domestic Violence Program
- Assistance Paying Past Due Bills
- Literacy
- Parenting Classes
- Youth Leadership Development
- Oral Health Program
- Car Seat & Booster Seat Checks
- Application Assistance
- And so much more!
If there’s something that you need or could use assistance with, but it’s not listed above, the team at the Resource Center encourages you to reach out. So much of what they are able to do and assist with will vary on an individual’s needs and circumstances, but they’d love the chance to help out anyone that needs it.
One of my favorite things to ask our Member of the Month is this: What makes you proud to be a part of your organization? As a whole, this team answered that they are so incredibly proud to have been around and to have been able to help the community for over 35 years. There’s no denying that this is an incredible benchmark for them. The best part is, we know that this organization will continue to do good for our community for the next 35 years to come!
The Rural Communities Resource Center encourages you to like their Facebook page to stay up to date on all of their happenings. I’ve listed all of their contact information and social pages below, so make sure to give them a follow! They are currently accepting new volunteers for recurring food banks. If anyone is interested in volunteering one Monday morning a month for the food bank, please give them a call (970) 848-3867.
