Happy Friday Yuma! This week’s Featured Business Friday goes out to less of a business, and more of a small town here —  the Rural Communities Resource Center. This group of individuals has dedicated their time to providing our community with the things they need the most. I continue to be amazed by the various services that they offer, programs that they’ve organized, and ways that they give back to Yuma. If you don’t know much about them, today’s blog post is for you! Learn more about this organization and everything they do, here.

About the Rural Communities Resource Center

The Rural Communities Resource Center (RCRC) opened its doors in 1984. This year, they celebrated 35 years of giving back to the community. The Resource Centered was created to help meet the ever changing needs of the community. Their goal has always been to bridge any gaps in access to services to better the lives of individuals in our community.

The Yuma location is staffed by Margo Ebersole, Lucie Ebersole, Berenice Marquez, and Mercedes Quezada. This team of ladies is always ready and willing to help in any way that they can.

“We believe that all families and individuals have strengths and are the experts on what they need to thrive. We are here to offer support in any way(s) that we can, and that may look very different from one person to the next.” —  Margo Ebersole

There’s no doubt about it, the individuals that fuel the Rural Communities Resource Center have a heart to give and a calling to serve, and I can honestly say that our community is better for it!

Services and Programs Offered

As Margo mentioned, there are countless ways that the Rural Communities Resource Center can provide assistance to members of the community, and many times these look different from one person to the next. With that being said, there are a handful of services and programs that you can take advantage of at the Rural Communities Resource Center. Some of the most prominent of those programs are:

  • New Directions Domestic Violence Program
  • Literacy Program
  • Oral Health Program
  • Family Health Program
  • ESTRELLAS Leadership Development Program
  • Homelessness Prevention
  • Healthy Snacks
  • Food Bank
  • Area Resource and Referral
  • And so much more!

If you or anyone you know is in need of some assistance or you simply want to learn more about the options available to you, the Rural Communities Resource Center is a great place to start.

You Can Help Too!

Please remember, we always need community support! There are so many ways that you could make a difference for local people. Whether you’re a business owner or a local resident, even the smallest of contributions, in the form of monetary value, food or clothing donations, or time, can make all the difference. A few suggestions are:

  • Donating non-perishable food items to the food drive and community pantry
  • Donating reusable grocery bags with your business name for food drives
  • Bringing a group to volunteer at the Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile Pantry
  • Taking up a collection to help support the New Directions Domestic Violence Program
  • Or simply telling a neighbor how/where to find us.

There is no such thing as a small contribution. At the Rural Communities Resource Center, every bit counts and we are always happy to answer questions and tell you more about the ways that you can contribute.
